Howdy
I close the gap between
strategy and execution.
For 20 years, I've been the person companies call when a brilliant plan hits organizational reality.
Origin Story
UX designer and product manager in early 2000s. Watched businesses fail to execute good ideas—not for lack of talent, but because how they worked blocked them.
Went to Stanford GSB to study organizational behavior. Ended up teaching there—building classes that married marketing and org design.
Building IDEO’s Org Practice
Joined IDEO 2011. Built their global org design practice over 13 years. Helped Moderna redesign their operating model for 10x scale. Helped Zalando grow from 0.5% to 4% of European fashion. Helped KraftHeinz ship in weeks instead of years. Led work for Meta, Mozilla, Toyota, and 50+ others.
The Pattern
Smart company makes brilliant plan. Hires McKinsey/IDEO. Gets a gorgeous deck. Can't digest it.
One client called it "a snake swallowing a rat."
Consultants leave. You're stuck translating 150 pages into what 2,000 people do differently on Monday.
Nice.Work
After stints at West Monroe and Black Glass, went independent in 2025.
Now I work differently: embedded longer, digestible chunks, focused on what clients can absorb.
GenAI tools mean I work at speed and scale that used to require teams. Senior-level work without big-firm overhead.
What I Do
Fix operating models so
AI deploys and strategy ships.
AI won't deploy - Teams have co-pilots but can't build agents. I break down workflows so you can automate them.
Strategy won't ship - Great plan, stuck execution. I redesign operating models so strategy actually happens.
Most companies are trying to use AI to execute strategy.
All too often their operating model blocks both.
Beyond Work
Fixing old trucks.
Carving hiking trails.
Designing secret entrances.
Building cardboard castles with my kids.
